MINI MOKE 1984 - The Mini Moke is a small front-wheel drive utility vehicle and a touring and leisure cabriolet. It was first designed and manufactured as a light military vehicle by the British Motor Corporation (BMC) and was later commercialised for civilian use under the Austin, Morris, Leyland and Moke brands. The Moke is known for its simple, straightforward, doorless design. The BMC factory in Cowley started building Mokes in January 1964 until 1968, then in Australia between 1966 and 1981 and finally in Portugal between 1980 and 1993 when, after almost 30 years of production, production ended. The original Moke was designed by Sir Alec Issigonis and John Sheppard. When Issigonis designed the Mini, he planned another vehicle to share the mechanical parts of the Mini, but with a more robust body. This was an attempt to take some of Land Rover's military vehicle business. As production of the Australian Moke declined, production was transferred to British Leyland's subsidiary in Portugal, at the IMA plant in Setúbal between 1980 and 1984. In 1984, production was transferred to the Vendas Novas factory. In April 1990, British Leyland (then called Rover Group) sold the ‘Moke’ name to Cagiva, a motorbike manufacturer in Bologna, Italy. Production continued in Portugal under the Cagiva umbrella until 1993. This example has recently undergone a full restoration process. It is in enviable condition.
